Ingredients

Scale

Tuna Steaks

  • 1 pound fresh tuna steaks (sushi-grade)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Salad

  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 1 cucumber, diced
  • 1 cup mixed greens
  • 1 avocado, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (for dressing)
  • Salt and pepper to taste (for dressing)

Creamy Garlic Sauce

  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: pinch of cayenne pepper

Instructions

  1. Preparing the Tuna Steaks: Pat the fresh tuna steaks dry with a paper towel to ensure a good sear. Season both sides generously with salt and pepper, adding garlic powder if desired for extra flavor.
  2. Making the Creamy Garlic Sauce: In a medium bowl, whisk together sour cream, mayonnaise, minced garlic, lemon juice, and Dijon mustard until smooth. Adjust seasoning with salt, pepper, and optional cayenne pepper for a subtle heat. Set aside.
  3. Cooking the Tuna Steaks: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. When hot, sear tuna steaks for 2-3 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or cook longer to desired doneness. Remove from heat and let rest for a couple of minutes.
  4. Preparing the Salad: Combine cherry tomatoes, diced cucumber, mixed greens, and sliced avocado in a large bowl. Drizzle with olive oil, season with salt and pepper, then toss gently to combine.
  5. Serving: Slice tuna steaks into thick pieces and arrange atop the salad. Drizzle the creamy garlic sauce over the tuna or serve alongside for dipping. Enjoy immediately.

Notes

  • Use sushi-grade tuna for optimal flavor and texture.
  • For a spicier sauce, increase the cayenne pepper gradually.
  • Adjust tuna cooking times to personal preference; tuna is best medium-rare.
  • The salad can be customized with additional vegetables or herbs as desired.
  • Leftover sauce can be stored in airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
