Ingredients

Scale

Chocolate Cake Base

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix
  • Eggs as required by cake mix instructions
  • Oil as specified by cake mix instructions
  • Water as specified by cake mix instructions

Peanut Butter Cream Swirl

  • 120 g butter, melted
  • 225 g cream cheese, softened
  • 125 g creamy peanut butter
  • 2.5 ml vanilla extract
  • 500 g powdered sugar

Toppings

  • 90 g semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 180 g mini peanut butter cups, halved

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Baking Dish: Preheat your oven to 175°C. Lightly grease a 23 x 33 cm glass baking dish to ensure the cake bakes evenly without sticking.
  2. Prepare Cake Batter: Prepare the chocolate cake batter according to the package instructions by combining the specified amounts of water, oil, and eggs. Mix until the batter is smooth, then pour it evenly into the prepared baking dish.
  3. Mix Peanut Butter Cream: In a large bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and melted butter together until fully smooth and creamy. Add the creamy peanut butter and vanilla extract and mix until fully incorporated. Gradually add powdered sugar, mixing continuously until the cream mixture is thick and spreadable.
  4. Create Swirl Layer: Spoon dollops of the peanut butter cream mixture over the surface of the chocolate cake batter. Using a knife or spatula, gently swirl the peanut butter mixture into the cake batter, creating a marbled effect without fully blending them together.
  5. Add Toppings: Evenly scatter the semi-sweet chocolate chips and halved mini peanut butter cups over the top of the batter. Press some pieces lightly into the batter while leaving others on top for texture and visual appeal.
  6. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 45 to 55 minutes. The edges should be set and firm, with the top cracked, and the center slightly jiggly but mostly set. Check closely towards the end to avoid overbaking.
  7. Cool and Serve: Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly in the baking dish. Serve warm for a gooey, decadent dessert or let cool completely for cleaner slices. Enjoy!

Notes

  • You can substitute regular peanut butter with natural peanut butter for a less sweet option.
  • Ensure cream cheese is softened to room temperature for smooth mixing.
  • Mini peanut butter cups can be substituted with chopped regular peanut butter cups if mini ones are unavailable.
  • For a firmer set, allow to cool completely before slicing.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
