Main Ingredients
- 1 pound shaved steak
- 2 teaspoons olive oil (divided)
- 2 teaspoons seasoned salt (divided)
- 1 small yellow onion, finely diced
- 1 small green bell pepper, finely diced
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 4 slices provolone cheese
- 12 egg roll wrappers
- Cheez Whiz for dipping
- Cook the Steak: Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add 1 teaspoon of olive oil. Once the oil is hot, add the shaved steak to the pan. Sprinkle with 1 teaspoon of seasoned salt and cook the steak through, stirring often to ensure it cooks evenly. Once cooked, transfer the steak to a plate and set aside.
- Sauté Vegetables: Add the remaining 1 teaspoon of olive oil to the same skillet and heat it. Add the finely diced yellow onion, green bell pepper, remaining 1 teaspoon of seasoned salt, and chili powder. Cook, stirring frequently, until the vegetables soften, about 5 minutes.
- Combine Steak and Vegetables: Return the cooked steak to the skillet with the sautéed vegetables. Stir everything together to combine evenly. Taste the mixture and add more seasoned salt if needed.
- Melt the Cheese: Lay the 4 slices of provolone cheese over the steak and vegetable mixture. Turn off the heat and cover the skillet. Let it sit for 3-4 minutes, allowing the cheese to melt completely.
- Mix the Filling: Stir the mixture well until the cheese is fully incorporated and the filling is evenly combined.
- Assemble Egg Rolls: Spoon 2 to 3 tablespoons of the steak mixture onto the center of an egg roll wrapper. Fold in each side, then tightly roll the wrapper. To seal the roll, dip your finger in water and brush the top corner of the wrapper, then finish rolling to close. Repeat this process with the remaining wrappers and filling.
- Prepare for Air Frying: Lightly spritz each egg roll on all sides with an oil spray to help them crisp up during cooking.
- Air Fry: Place the egg rolls in a single layer inside your air fryer basket, making sure there is enough space between each for air circulation. Depending on your air fryer size, you may need to cook in 2 to 3 batches. Cook them at 390°F (200°C) for 7 minutes, flipping halfway through, until they are golden brown and crispy.
- Serve: Serve the hot egg rolls immediately with warm Cheez Whiz for dipping.
Notes
- You can substitute provolone with mozzarella or American cheese for a different flavor profile.
- If you don’t have an air fryer, these egg rolls can also be deep-fried or baked in the oven at 400°F until golden and crispy.
- For a spicier kick, add some chopped jalapeños or use a spicy chili powder variant.
- Make sure to seal the egg rolls tightly to prevent filling from spilling during cooking.
- Storage: Cooked egg rolls can be stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 3 days and reheated in the air fryer to maintain crispiness.
