Ingredients

Scale

Filling

  • 1 pound shredded cooked chicken breast
  • 1/2 cup Alfredo sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Dough & Topping

  • 2 store-bought pizza dough rounds
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil, for brushing

Serving

  • Extra Alfredo sauce for dipping

Instructions

  1. Preheat your air fryer: Heat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for about 3 minutes to ensure it’s ready for cooking the calzones evenly and to a perfect crisp.
  2. Mix the filling: In a large bowl, combine the shredded cooked chicken, Alfredo sauce, shredded mozzarella, ricotta cheese, grated Parmesan, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, and season with salt and pepper. Stir everything thoroughly until well mixed.
  3. Prepare the dough: Roll out each of the two pizza dough rounds and cut each into two equal pieces to yield four sections in total for the calzones.
  4. Form the calzones: Place a generous scoop of the chicken and cheese mixture on one half of each dough piece, leaving about a 1/2 inch border around the edges. Fold the dough over to create a half-moon shape and press the edges firmly with a fork to seal the filling inside.
  5. Brush with olive oil: Lightly brush the top of each calzone with olive oil to promote a golden-brown crust during air frying.
  6. Air fry the calzones: Arrange the calzones in the air fryer basket in a single layer without overlapping. Cook in batches if necessary. Air fry each batch for 8-10 minutes until the crust is crispy and golden brown.
  7. Cool and serve: Let the calzones cool slightly for a few minutes before serving. Provide extra Alfredo sauce on the side as a delicious dip.

Notes

  • Ensure not to overfill the calzones to prevent leaking during cooking.
  • If you don’t have an air fryer, you can bake calzones in a conventional oven at 400°F (200°C) for 15-20 minutes until golden.
  • You can substitute store-bought Alfredo sauce with homemade for a fresher flavor.
  • Leftover calzones store well in the refrigerator sealed for up to 3 days and reheat nicely in the air fryer or oven.
  • To make this recipe gluten-free, use gluten-free pizza dough instead of regular dough.
