Banana Bread Batter
- 3 ripe bananas, mashed
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Cinnamon Swirl
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- Preheat Oven and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan thoroughly and set it aside to ensure the bread doesn’t stick after baking.
- Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the mashed bananas, melted unsalted butter, granulated sugar, beaten egg, and vanilla extract. Mix well until all ingredients are fully incorporated and the mixture is smooth.
- Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt to distribute the leavening and seasoning evenly.
- Combine Wet and Dry Mixtures: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet banana mixture, stirring gently just until everything is incorporated. Avoid overmixing to keep the bread tender.
- Prepare Cinnamon Swirl Mixture: In a small bowl, mix together the ground cinnamon and brown sugar to create the cinnamon swirl topping.
- Layer Batter and Cinnamon Mixture: Pour half of the banana batter into the prepared loaf pan in an even layer. Sprinkle half of the cinnamon mixture evenly over the batter. Pour the remaining batter on top, then sprinkle the remaining cinnamon mixture across the surface.
- Create the Swirl Effect: Using a knife or skewer, gently swirl the cinnamon sugar through the banana batter by running it back and forth and in circular motions to create a marbled cinnamon effect.
- Bake the Bread: Place the loaf pan in the preheated oven and bake for 60-70 minutes. Check doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center; it should come out clean. If the top begins to brown too quickly, tent the loaf loosely with aluminum foil.
- Cool the Bread: Remove the bread from the oven and allow it to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then transfer the loaf to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing and serving.
Notes
- Use very ripe bananas for the best sweetness and flavor.
- Do not overmix the batter to keep the bread moist and tender.
- If the bread browns too fast, covering it with foil will prevent burning while allowing it to finish baking.
- Store leftover bread wrapped tightly at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to a week.
- The bread freezes well; wrap tightly and freeze for up to 2 months.
- For a nuttier flavor, add 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans to the batter before baking.
