Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 Tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt

Wet Ingredients:

  • ⅔ cup milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 Tbsp canola oil
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Filling:

  • 3 cups peeled, cored, and diced apples

Cinnamon Sugar Mixture:

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 12 Tbsp cinnamon (adjust to taste)

Glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 Tbsp milk
  • ¼ tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Heat the Oil: Pour oil about 2 inches deep into an electric skillet and preheat to 375°F. This ensures the oil is hot enough for frying the fritters evenly.
  2. Mix the Batter: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cinnamon, baking powder, and salt to combine all the dry ingredients evenly. Then add milk, eggs, vanilla extract, and canola oil to the dry mixture and stir until the batter is smooth. Fold in the diced apples gently so they are evenly distributed without breaking apart.
  3. Fry the Fritters: Using a small or medium cookie scoop, carefully drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil in small batches. Fry for about 5 minutes total, flipping halfway through, until the fritters turn a beautiful golden brown on all sides.
  4. Drain and Coat: Remove the cooked fritters with a slotted spoon and place them on paper towels to absorb excess oil. While still warm, toss the fritters in the cinnamon sugar mixture or dip each in the powdered sugar glaze for added sweetness.
  5. Serve: Allow the glaze to set briefly before serving. Enjoy these warm apple fritter bites as a delightful snack or dessert treat.

Notes

  • Make sure the oil is at the correct temperature (375°F) for perfect frying; too cool oil will make fritters greasy, too hot will burn them.
  • Diced apples should be small enough to mix well but not so fine that they turn mushy during frying.
  • You can adjust the cinnamon amount in the sugar coating to suit your taste preferences.
  • The glaze can be thickened or thinned by adjusting the amount of milk.
  • These fritters are best enjoyed warm but can be reheated briefly for crispiness.
