These Air Fryer Pumpkin Fries are a delicious and healthy snack or side dish, featuring perfectly seasoned and crispy pumpkin slices with a blend of warm spices. Using an air fryer makes them quick and easy to prepare with less oil for a guilt-free treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Pumpkin Fries

  • 1 medium pumpkin (Kabocha or sugar pumpkin recommended)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • Black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the pumpkin: Wash and dry the pumpkin thoroughly. Cut it in half, removing the stem and seeds completely.
  2. Slice the pumpkin: Cut the pumpkin halves into half-inch to one-inch thick fries. Peel the skin if preferred or if the variety used has tough skin.
  3. Make spice mixture: In a large bowl, combine the olive oil with cumin, turmeric, smoked paprika, sea salt, and black pepper, mixing well to create a seasoning blend.
  4. Coat the pumpkin fries: Add the sliced pumpkin fries to the bowl and toss them until each piece is fully coated with the spiced olive oil mixture.
  5. Preheat air fryer: Set your air fryer to preheat at 360°F (182°C) for optimal cooking temperature.
  6. Arrange fries in air fryer basket: Place the fries in a single layer in the air fryer basket, avoiding overcrowding to ensure even crispiness.
  7. Air fry the pumpkin fries: Cook the fries at 360°F for 15 minutes, flipping them halfway through the cooking time for even crisping on all sides.
  8. Check and adjust crispiness: After 15 minutes, check the fries. If they need more crispiness, air fry for an additional 5 minutes.
  9. Cook in batches: Depending on your air fryer size, repeat the process for 2-3 batches to cook all the pumpkin fries.
  10. Serve hot: Serve the pumpkin fries hot with your favorite dipping sauce or enjoy them as they are.

Notes

  • Use a firm pumpkin variety like Kabocha or sugar pumpkin for best flavor and texture.
  • Peeling the pumpkin is optional but recommended if the skin is tough.
  • To ensure crispiness, avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket.
  • Adjust spices to your taste preference; add chili powder or cayenne for heat if desired.
  • Serve immediately for the best texture as fries can become softer when cooled.
  • Store leftover fries in an airtight container and reheat in the air fryer to maintain crispiness.
