This Air Fryer Philly Cheesesteak recipe combines tender cooked frozen beef steaks with sautéed bell peppers and onions, all layered between crispy garlic Texas toast and melted provolone cheese. Using an air fryer for the bread toasts and final sandwich baking gives a perfectly crispy texture with minimal effort, making this a quick and delicious twist on the classic Philly cheesesteak sandwich.

Ingredients

Scale

Sandwich Ingredients

  • 4 pieces of Garlic Texas Toast (frozen)
  • 2 Frozen Beef Steaks (Steak Eze or Steak Umms)
  • ½ Green Bell Pepper (sliced)
  • ½ Yellow Onion (sliced)
  • 4 pieces Provolone Cheese

Cooking Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp Butter
  • Salt and Pepper to taste
  • ½ tsp Seasoning Salt

Instructions

  1. Slice Vegetables: Slice the green bell pepper and yellow onion into thin strips and set aside to prepare for sautéing.
  2. Sauté Vegetables: Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a pan on the stovetop over medium heat. Add the sliced peppers and onions, season with salt and pepper, and sauté until softened. Remove from pan and place into a bowl.
  3. Cook Steaks: Cook the frozen beef steaks according to package instructions: about 2 minutes on each side. Once cooked, break up the meat into smaller pieces.
  4. Combine Meat and Vegetables: Add the sautéed peppers and onions back into the pan with the cooked steak. Mix in ½ teaspoon of seasoning salt and combine well.
  5. Toast Bread: Place the 4 pieces of frozen garlic Texas toast in the air fryer. Cook at 400°F for 3 minutes, then flip each piece and cook for an additional 3 minutes until crispy.
  6. Assemble Sandwich (First Layer): On two of the toasted garlic bread slices, place a slice of provolone cheese. Use tongs to evenly pile the cheesesteak mixture on top of the cheese.
  7. Add Cheese Layer: Place another slice of provolone cheese on top of the meat mixture on each sandwich.
  8. Top Sandwiches: Cover the sandwiches with the remaining two pieces of garlic toast to complete the sandwich.
  9. Final Air Fry: Place the assembled sandwiches into the air fryer and bake at 350°F for 3 minutes to melt the cheese and warm through.

Notes

  • Use frozen garlic Texas toast for the best texture and flavor.
  • Adjust seasoning salt and pepper according to taste preferences.
  • Be sure to break up the cooked steak for easier sandwich assembly and better texture.
  • Keep an eye on the air fryer when toasting bread to prevent over-browning.
  • This recipe is perfect for a quick weeknight meal or satisfying lunch.
